Michael Mares -- Outreach Team 2018
Michael Mares is a double major in psychology and philosophy. His favorite topics in psychology are personality and existential therapy, and his favorite topics in philosophy are psychoanalysis and ontology. In his free time he does photography, bikes, and paints. He hopes to one day be a teacher and help students open their minds to a whole new world of possibilities.
Owen Miller -- Conference Team 2018
Owen Miller is a sophomore philosophy and psychology dual major. He was born in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and has lived all over the U.S. and in Kobe, Japan. His hobbies are gaming, reading philosophy and literature, doing very simple paintings, drawings, and crafts, and whistling his favorite tunes. The most strange thing he does in his free time is put his cats into ridiculous situations to elicit ridiculous reactions. Owen is currently most fascinated and frustrated by philosophy of mind and consciousness. Did you know there are valid reasons to believe matter itself has consciousness? Crazy stuff. Owen is very passionate about teaching others about how to use philosophy as a way to improve themselves and the world.
Luke Owens -- Conference Team 2018
Luke Owens is a philosophy major and religious studies minor. He grew up in Brookville and went to high school in Oldenburg. Luke enjoys activities such as running, chess, reading literature, taking nature hikes, and listening to music. He believes that the most frustrating philosophical concept to wrap his head around is the notion of free will, because nobody has been able to describe it to him in a way that has led him to believe in it, yet everyone thinks they get it. If he could eradicate one color, it would be the color turquoise. After graduation Luke plans to travel and eventually get a job teaching secondary education.
Gabriel Shetterley -- Outreach Team 2018
Gabriel Shetterley is a philosophy major and political science minor. Gabriel was born in Noblesville, raised in Fortville, and attended Pendleton Heights High School. His hobbies include playing percussion and bass guitar and listening, collecting, and talking about music. He enjoys board games, including chess and monopoly, reading, crafting, and participating in nature activities, such as hiking, kayaking, camping, and more. His favorite fictional characters are the Machine Elves from True Hallucinations by Terence McKenna. Gabriel’s ideal band name would be “Eat that Question: a Zappa Tribute Band” or E.T.Q for short.
Armani
Armani is the beloved dog of our program. While he is technically is Justice’s service animal, Armani has quickly become near and dear to all of our hearts! Armani is 17 years old and majors in being a good boy. He just likes to help everyone out and to be the “goodest" boy possible. His main philosophical interest is “why do squirrels make us bark?”
